Based in Mossley Hill, Booker Flowers & Gifts celebrates its 35th birthday this month and is looking for nominations to give bouquets to 35 ‘community champions’. Tony McDonough reports

South Liverpool florist Booker Flowers & Gifts is celebrating its 35 years in business this month by gifting bouquets to 35 ‘community champions’.

Current owner of Booker, Gemma Wakerley, took over the business in 2010 and has seen a significant growth in business. In particular, it has seen a big rise in wedding bookings working with over 50 brides and grooms a year.

It has earned the  the title of ‘Three Best Rated Florist’ in Liverpool, alongside being named ‘North West Regional Winner’ in the English Wedding Awards in 2018.

Gemma said: “The last few months have been difficult for independent businesses across the region as we continue to adapt to new ways of working, but we feel incredibly thankful that we have been able to face those challenges and come out stronger than ever.

“It’s fantastic that we’re now able to celebrate such an important birthday with our friends, family and customers in the community by giving something back. We’re asking people to tell us who they think deserves the title of Community Champion and we’ll do the rest, creating a stunning bouquet for our chosen nominees.”

Located in Mossley Hill, the independent business offers flowers for every occasion, offering seven-day delivery available across Merseyside and the surrounding areas.

“As a small, local business, we are delighted to be celebrating our 35th anniversary – an achievement that I feel is a real testament to our progressive attitude, combined with our traditional values when it comes to customer service and a passion for what we do,” added Gemma.

“Despite being around for more than three decades, the business has really thrived in the last 10 years since I took over the helm. We have introduced our eco-packaging with environmentally friendly bouquet boxes and wrappings used as the standard across all of our products.

“In the time that I’ve been owner, and with the support from my wonderful team, we’ve been able to quadruple our turnover and have really advanced our events services which has seen us work across the North West.”
