Liverpool pension firm staff raise cash toward Laura’s prosthetic leg

Staff from pension services provider MyCSP has raised a £1,000 for a Liverpool woman who is looking to raise money for a prosthetic leg.
Laura Wakefield, 27, from Speke had to have her left leg amputated beneath her knee following the discovery of a rare cancer in her foot.
She discovered a lump in her foot which continued to grow. She was eventually diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer called sarcoma.
Due to the nature of the cancer and its rarity, the usual forms of treatment are unfortunately ineffective, meaning amputation was the only way to stop the it spreading. The operation took place in May 2017.
Her family, friends and colleagues at her employer, commercial property agency GVA, have raised more than £9,000 via sponsored cycles, football and skydiving.
They want to raise enough to buy the best quality prosthetic leg they can for Laura.
Her cousin, Tom Fletcher, works for Liverpool-based MyCSP and he applied to the company’s Community Fund for the donation.
In addition, MyCSP’s enquiry centre has also been supporting the fundraising and have so far held stand up bingo, a bake sale, spot the ball and a Wii tournament to help raise money.
Tom said: “Laura has been incredibly brave throughout, and so many people have come together to raise money so that she can have the best available prosthetic limb for her recovery.”
David Boardman, communications director at MyCSP, added: “This story really touched us and Laura is known to many people that work at MyCSP so we were very happy to help.”
