Liverpool Secret Diners Club hold biggest underground dining event to date
Liverpool’s Secret Diners Club successfully held their biggest event to date in November, when they hosted their latest underground dining event at The Static Gallery.
Not only was this the unconventional pop-up restaurant’s most subscribed dinner with over 45 covers, it was also the first time that Secret Diners Club had taken over a completely empty and raw space.
This meant that chefs Daniel Heffy and Michael Harrison had to deliver the five course, seasonal menu to over 45 guests with a makeshift kitchen containing just four camping stoves and one oven. To add to the pressure, the kitchen was located in the dining room, bringing the theatre of the kitchen to the guests and for all to see.
Despite the lack of conventional cooking apparatus, guests were treated to an exquisite menu including an outstanding fish course of scallop and oxtail, a main course beautifully showcasing venison and the winter favourite; sticky toffee pudding.
Like all the Secret Diners Club events, guests tucked in despite not knowing exactly what they were eating; with the menu remaining undisclosed right up until the last course is served.
Throughout the meal guests were encouraged to interact and guess the courses on blank menus handed out at the start of service, however, once the desert was served, the real menu was handed out with guests comparing and debating their answers with fellow diners.
Michael Harrison, Co-Founder of Secret Diners Club, says:
“We have been once again blown away by the huge turnout and great feedback to Saturday’s Secret Diners Club.
We’re always looking to challenge ourselves and so we are thrilled that we hosted our biggest event in a completely empty space, using just a few camping stoves and an oven to deliver the menu!
Our events are aimed at real foodies, who want to be more than fed and watered during a meal and to really experience a culinary journey.
We can’t wait to get planning January’s event and hope to welcome even more diners to our unfamiliar, gastronomic nights!”
Secret Diners Club is a dining concept created by two of Liverpool’s most experiential chefs, Michael Harrison and Daniel Heffy, which aims to rip the traditional fine dining format straight from its often rigid framework, and vibrantly recreate it in a new, exciting setting; giving birth to an unconventional and exciting, fine dining experience.
The next Secret Diners Club is currently in the process of being organised but will be taking place in January.
