The award comes as a result of the a scheme pioneered by several organisations, including Merseytravel, that sought funding to provide specialist customer service training. Endorsed by the People 1st Training Company, more than 4,000 staff in visitor economy, retail, and transport services have benefited from these new training measures.

In addition, these new training services helped to prepare volunteers supporting the recent International Festival for Business (IFB), and has also been used by several large hospitality businesses and organisations (such as Liverpool John Lennon Airport and a collective of taxi drivers involved in Liverpool’s showcase summer events, like the Open Gold at Hoylake and the Giants Spectacular).

Robert Hough, chair of Liverpool Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), was the award’s recipient, at a ceremony in the Town Hall hosted by Lord Mayor Cllr Erica Kemp.

Robert Hough said:

“As a result of this training, visitors will experience even better customer service from our retailers, hospitality and tourism businesses. This encourages visitors to spread the word and make a return visit, boosting profitability of our sector.”
