Liverpool’s Malmaison changes hands in £363m deal
In a deal worth £363m, the Malmaison – one of Liverpool’s top hotels – has changed hands.
Singapore-based hotels and apartments operator, Frasers Hospitality UK Holdings, has acquired the Malmaison Hotel du Vin (MHDV) group of boutique lifestyle hotels from an affiliate of KSL Capital Partners.
This portfolio comprises 29 Malmaison and Hotel du Vins including the Malmaison Liverpool at Princes Dock, close to the city’s cruise liner terminal.
KSL acquired the portfolio in 2012 after the previous owner, MWB Group, folded into administration.
The Liverpool Malmaison opened its doors in January 2007 and has 130 rooms which are popular with celebrities and visiting Premier League football teams.
Frasers Hospitality is a subsidiary of Frasers Centrepoint Limited (FCL) and it operates 129 properties in 77 cities across the world.
Lim Ee Send, chief executive of FCL said:
“This acquisition is important as it doubles our offerings in Europe to about 4,000 keys and it propels Frasers Hospitality to be one of the leading hospitality players in this market.”
A market leader in the boutique concept, Malmaison has won Best Small Hotel Chain at the Business Travel Awards four years consecutively.
Winner of accolades such as Business Traveller Best Small Hotel Group In The World and a Gold Award winner by Conde Nast for design and ambience, the Hotel du Vin outlets are described as having, “an elegant and eclectic style, with trademark bistros and an emphasis on outstanding wine”.
