Lord Mayor’s help is icing in the cake

Liverpool’s Lord Mayor will help a group of local students put the finishing touches to their entry for this weekend’s T175 Transatlantic Cake Fest competition.

Lord Mayor Councillor Tony Concepcion said:

“I am looking forward to helping out such creative and talented students in completing an edible Town Hall.

“The Cake Fest is just a small part of all that is happening this weekend, with plenty to see and do for all the family and I can’t wait to see the creations from all of our bakers.

“I hope we can encourage as many people as possible to come along to the waterfront and see, not just our wonderful cakes but also to get involved in what promises to be a fun event for everyone to enjoy.”

Cassie Mcgrellis, will be working with students Richard Edwards and Lorea Acebes from the bakery and cake decoration department of The City of Liverpool College to finish the decorating of the cake.

Tutor Gary Hindley said:

“Our students have been working hard to create this fantastic masterpiece and are looking forward to showcasing their final design on Sunday.”

The Transatlantic Cake Fest is the brainchild of food innovator and director of the “Eat the Atlantic” food festival, Simon Preston. He said:

“Eat the Atlantic is all about celebrating food culture from both sides of the pond and having fun exploring food in different ways. It’s about creating something different, something with a unique twist to mark Liverpool’s summer of celebrations.”

Cakes will be on display in Mann Island from 3pm on Sunday 5 July.
