Manufacturer’s expansion in Bootle could lead to more jobs

Global developer and and manufacturer of coding and marking technologies, Domino Group, has started work on a new 170,000 sq ft facility on the Senate Business Park. Tony McDonough reports.

More jobs could be in the pipeline following the expansion of a specialist manufacturing  site in Bootle.

Global developer and and manufacturer of coding and marking technologies, Domino Group, has started work on a new 170,000 sq ft facility on the Senate Business Park.

Its subsidiary, Domino UK, current employs 75 people nearby making fluids products which are shipped directly to customers, sales channels and more than 200 distributors worldwide.

The new project, which is expected to be completed mid-2017, will not only safeguard the current workforce but is anticipated to create new jobs when fully operational.

Domino is a division of Brother Industries, a public company based in Nagoya, Japan, and listed on the Japanese Stock Exchange.

Representatives from the company, Sefton Council and InvestSefton were joined by Peter Dowd, MP for Bootle, at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Greg Summers, Domino’s Fluids Group operations director, said: “This is very good news for our Sefton site and for our workforce.

“We have both a committed and motivated workforce and local suppliers, so remaining within the vicinity is an important factor in our decision-making process for this project.

“We are particularly pleased with the sanction and approval for the development of a new manufacturing site to meet our growing demands here in the Liverpool city region.” 

The currently facility has been operating in Sefton for 35 years and the company worked with local developers, and with the help of Sefton Council, to secure and purchase a suitable site.

Domino’s technology portfolio includes continuous inkjet printing, drop-on-demand inkjet printing, including piezo valvejet and thermal print and apply labelling, as well as seven-colour digital label press.
