Liverpool author Evelyn Bhatt is to donate some of the profits from the sale of her first children’s book, The Sock Hunt, to the the Ronald McDonald House, based at Alder Hey Hospital.
Ronald McDonald House is an independent charity that provides accommodation for families of critically-ill children who are patients at the children’s hospital. Profits from sales of copies of Sock Hunt sold at its in-house shop will go to the charity.
Evelyn said: “Over the past years I have worked with lots of great children’s hospitals around the world, so with my debut book, I wanted a percentage of the proceeds to go to the charities of some of these amazing hospitals.
“Ronald McDonald House Alder Hey is a fantastic charity that helps when families need it most.”
Fundraising manager at Ronald McDonald House, Gillian Wilson, added: “Ronald McDonald House has provided a place to stay and support to mote than 32,000 families who have faced some of the hardest days of their lives.
“As an independent charity, our main source of income is through fundraising and donations. In order to keep Mac House running, we need to raise £600,000 each year, and with 84 rooms we have a lot of families depending on us.”
Ronald McDonald House Alder Hey has also reached the finals of the North West charity awards, held in autumn. It has been nominated for North West Charity of the Year; Volunteer of the Year and Best Social and Digital Media. The awards are held in Manchester on October 12.
