Mersey Maritime has unveiled the shortlist for its 2018 awards – a celebration of excellence and innovation in Liverpool city region’s £4bn maritime sector.

The Mersey Maritime Awards 2018, which organisers say will be the biggest and best yet, take place at Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium on March 8. Next year the organisation plans to take the awards on to a national stage.

The shortlist includes a diverse range of business and it was compiled by the judges using a scrupulous points-based system.

The judges met on January 19 to discuss the entrant before going away to give further thought and then submitting their final scores. The scores are averaged and the top three in each category make the shortlist.

Some categories will have 4 companies on the shortlist – this is where companies have had tied averages. The finalists will now all be invited to meet the judges on February 8, after which the judges will score them again.

The scores will be averaged and then added to their round one scores. The winners will be those with the highest scores.

Chris Shirling-Rooke, chief executive of Mersey Maritime, said: “The standard of entries this year has been the highest yet.

“Liverpool city region is re-establishing itself as a national and global hub for the maritime sector and the 2018 awards will feature the National Impact Award which is open to companies across the UK.

“We are quickly being recognised as the number one hub in the UK for the maritime sector and so in 2019 our awards will become a national event.”
