Mersey sports nutrition brand secures deal with Rangers

From its base in Knowsley, sports nutrition brand Applied Nutrition exports its products to more than 70 countries and will now supply the Rangers first team. Tony McDonough reports

Applied Nutrition is now Rangers’ official sports nutrition partner


Merseyside-based sports nutrition brand Applied Nutrition has secured a deal to supply its products to Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

From its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Knowsley, Applied Nutrition sells its products, which include pre-workout powders and healthy lifestyle drinks, to more than 70 countries worldwide with annual sales of £22m.

Founded by Kirkby-born Thomas Ryder, the firm has established itself as one of the fastest-growing privately-owned sports nutrition brands in Europe. It’s best-selling ABE workout products are stocked in hundreds UK gyms.

Now its products will be used by the Rangers first team to fuel pre-match preparations and assist with recovery. The products supplied to Rangers will include several of the company’s Informed Sport-registered products such as Critical Whey Protein, Recovery, Velocity gels and Critical Mass. 

As the club’s official sports nutrition partner, the Applied Nutrition brand will feature within the stadium and across the club’s digital platforms. Rangers’ manager is former Liverpool FC midfielder Steven Gerrard, himself born and brought up in Knowsley.

Mr Ryder said: “Rangers are a huge and prestigious club and we’re looking forward to working with the Performance team to keep the players fuelled and further develop our offering in the professional sports market.”

Rangers will be one of the first professional clubs to use Applied Nutrition’s new Endurance range which is set to launch in the next two months. It is targeted at endurance athletes and professional sports clubs.

The club’s head of performance, Jordan Milsom, added: “Once again, we will be dealing with a very congested fixture list, and Applied Nutrition’s products will aid us in the performance and recovery strategies in preparation and following matches.”
