Pioneering Mersey Maritime Industry Awards voting platform receives fantastic response

More than 1,000 votes were cast using the new Mersey Maritime Industry Awards 2019 (MMIA) voting platform – demonstrating a high level of engagement from the local and national Maritime sector.

Awards organiser Mersey Maritime enlisted the expertise of 12 judges from across the industry to select the shortlist in 12 categories for the MMIAs, which will take place on Thursday 14 March, at Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel.

Those experts included Ben Murray – Director Maritime UK, Helen Kelly – Europe Editor-in-Chief Lloyds List, Professor Simon Quinn – Director of the Research Institute for Industry, University of Southampton and Camilla Carlbom-Flinn – Chairman, Carlbom Shipping.

After publishing the shortlist Mersey Maritime unveiled its new voting platform, allowing people from across the UK to vote for those they believe were most worthy of an award.

To help them make an informed choice, Mersey Maritime worked with the finalists to produce short films aiming to bring their application to life and showcase their achievements.

The deadline for voting was midnight on Friday, February 15, and Mersey Maritime chief executive Chris Shirling-Rooke said that they were “overwhelmed” by the response.

He added: “We were really excited to launch the new voting platform, and of course we were also a little nervous. This was an industry first and we weren’t sure how well it would be received.

“It took off from day one and we were completely bowled over by the response from the industry. The phenomenal response really has showcased the drive from businesses and stakeholders to celebrate and support each other.

We feel that it has been hugely successful, and we’d definitely like to do this again next year.”

The awards ceremony will host 450 guests from across the local, national and international maritime sector in attendance. There are limited tickets left to attend and if you would like to find out more, please contact MMIA@merseymaritime.co.uk
