Southport BID urges people to support Independents’ Day
Taking place this weekend, Independents’ Day aims to support more than 200,000 independent retail outlets in the UK and Southport BID is urging people to back the initiative
People who live in and around Southport, and those visiting the town next weekend, are being urged to supporter local businesses during Independents’ Day UK 2021.
This year’s event takes place on Saturday July 3, and Sunday, July 4, with the aim of supporting independent retailers across the UK. It is being seen as particularly important this year following the terrible impact of the pandemic.
Independents account for around 65% of the around 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and are at the heart of local communities throughout the country. Independents’ Day UK is held in partnership with Local Rewards.
Southport BID, which represents retailers and leisure businesses in the town, is urging people to come and and support the initiative. Chief executive Rachel Fitzgerald said: “Southport has so many superb independent businesses, and we are pleased to see them back open once again after the easing of lockdown restrictions.
“This has been such a tough few months for local firms and they need your backing now more than ever. Whether you are looking to enjoy shopping, going for a meal out, sharing a night out with friends or experiencing some of our great attractions, Independents’ Day UK 2021 is a perfect opportunity for taking part.
“Southport BID has shown our commitment through our dedicated Southport Independents website and social media pages, where you can find great stories, offers and events happening locally.”
Southport BID business engagement manager, Luke Randles, added: “Independent businesses have never been more vital to our town centres, and there has never been a more important time to support them.
“Southport is lucky to have an eclectic mix of independents, all with unique individual offerings, and run by passionate owners and staff. As Southport residents, we should do anything we can to champion these businesses.”
