St George’s Hall gears up for a real Shoctober

A ghoulish Skool of Horrors and a spooky Journey into Hell are what visitors to St George’s Hall Liverpool can expect this Halloween season.

There is a choice of two events, one for children and an adults only event – so fans of all things Halloween are most definitely catered for, for this scary celebration.

The events are being presented by Liverpool Shocktober in association with St George’s Hall Liverpool, with tours for youngsters aged 8 to 12 years in the daytime, followed by adult tours in the evening time.

Skool of Horrors for children last 90 minutes. Tours will take place over six days, from Thursday 23 October to Saturday 25 October, and then again from Wednesday 29 October to Friday 31 October. Tour times are 10.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm, and places are limited to 30 places per tour.

Set deep in the eerie setting of the St George’s Hall Catacombs, youngsters will meet a total of eight characters during their quest including the cryptkeeper Mister Grimm and his assistant, who will start and conclude the tour investigation and the Catacombs’ Wicked Witch of the West, who will be joined by her trustee winged monkey assistant. By using her crystal ball, she will try to hinder the children in their bid to complete the quest.

The tour will see the youngsters navigate their way round the Catacombs in a bid to solve the mystery. When they visit each of the six areas, they will be met by a variety of colourful characters who will interact with them, explain their link to the history of St George’s Hall, and set riddles. With plenty of surprises along the way.

The group will then return to Mister Grimm and use their clues to solve the mystery. The tour will be rounded off by a spooky surprise.

Journey into Hell is strictly for adults as they are welcomed to the inferno as they embark on a trip through the gates of hell. Tours last one hour and are limited to 30 places each evening at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm.

Be prepared to get up close and personal with those childhood fears. Journey into Hell promises to terrify and traumatise visitors, leaving them with very little voice after all that screaming! They’ll be greeted by the demons that haunt the hidden depths of St George’s Hall, who want nothing more than to keep them from leaving the darkness – bringing to life their darkest fears and nightmares.

James Griffiths, from Liverpool Shocktober, commented: “We’re delighted to be bringing two very different shows to St George’s Hall this Halloween. It’s such an iconic building with so much character, that the eerie catacombs are the perfect backdrop for our visual spectacles.
“For children, the focus is very much on fantasy and fairytales, but with a spooky and ghoulish twist. Youngsters will enjoy it as it will heighten their imaginations as they try to solve the mystery. While we have something very much at the other end of the Halloween scale for the grown-ups. Their experience is most definitely not for the faint-hearted and will be unforgettable – you have been warned!”
