Demolition works are currently being undertaken on the former grain silo along Great Howard Street at Tobacco Warehouse Stanley Dock, for Harcourt Developments.

A major route into Liverpool city centre is to close for up to a week due to fears a former grain silo may collapse.

Demolition works are currently being undertaken on the building along Great Howard Street at Tobacco Warehouse Stanley Dock, for Harcourt Developments.

Due to engineering difficulties experienced by the contractor, Liverpool City Council’s building control department has deemed the building unsafe.

In the interest of public safety Great Howard Street is to be closed between Walter Street and Saltney Street for both vehicles and pedestrians for up to one week from 4pm on Monday.

The diversion route for this closure will be as follows:

Inbound: Blackstone Street (A5054), Regent Road and Dublin Street

Outbound: Great Howard Street, Paisley Street (at Costco), Regent Road and Blackstone Street (at Tai Pan).

Once the demolition works are complete and made safe, the road will be reopened to traffic.

These works are completely separate from the current highway improvement works to create a new dual carriageway for Great Howard Street.
