Top award for college’s catering team
The City of Liverpool College’s award-winning culinary team served up a slice of victory at a top competition, making them three-time winners.
Led by Ian Jaundoo, Executive Chef and Culinary Team Manager, the team from the college’s Academy Restaurant were crowned Best Visiting Team at its first Salon Culinaire Competition of the academic year.
Eight students from The City of Liverpool College make up the team and 18 year-old Daniel Liu from Wavertree enjoyed a personal success, being named the Best Visiting Student Chef.
Ian said:
“I am exceptionally proud of our team. This is the first competition most of them have entered and to pick up the award for Best Visiting Team, for the third year running, is a superb achievement and definitely a sign of things to come, both in terms of competition success and the undoubted career prospects that lie ahead for all eight of these aspiring chefs.”
Whilst working hard on the academic side of their VRQ Diploma in Professional Cookery Level 3 course and producing modern contemporary dishes in the Academy Public Restaurant, salon competitions add an element of extra pressure to the way student chef’s work.
Daniel said:
“This encourages us to strive for perfection, while replicating the extreme conditions of a professional kitchen in a completely different environment.. That is why I was so proud to have won Best Visiting Chef – but I could not have done it without the team and the Team Managers support and guidance.”
The student members of the Best Visiting Team included:
Leon Tam, Livia Alarcon, Carlyle De Salis, Harry Entwistle, Daniel Liu, Andrew Green, Calum Johnston and Level 2 student Gurshesham Singh.
