Liverpool construction and fire protection specialist Frank Rogers Building Contractors has joined more than 1,000 UK employers in committing to training its future workforce.

Frank Rogers has joined the 5% Club – an industry-led initiative committed to investing in the next generation through ‘earn and learn’ opportunities. This is a commitment to employ apprentices, graduates, T-Level students, and sponsored students.

In recent weeks the Government has committed to funding a £625m package for skills specifically in construction, expected to provide up to 60,000 more skilled workers this Parliament.

And Liverpool City Region Combined Authority says it will invest £68m in adult training over the next 12 months funding colleges, skills bootcamps and free courses.

Frank Rogers, which grew its turnover to £25m last year, attributes the increase to a strong performance across its construction, fire protection, and energy divisions. While welcoming these initiatives, the firm stresses the need for industry-wide action to secure a skilled future workforce.

These ‘earn and learn’ programmes, must be “meaningful”, the company insists and offer solid skills and real career paths to young people. It is committing towards a goal of 5% of its total workforce being made up of earn-and-learn employees within five years.

Mike Travis, director of FR Fire Protection, said: “Investing in young talent is not just a social responsibility – it’s critical to the long-term sustainability and success of our business. Joining The 5% Club formalises what we’ve always believed at Frank Rogers: that creating real pathways into construction changes lives.

“We’re proud of our long-standing commitment to apprenticeships and training – from hiring local apprentices on live contracts, to delivering school engagement, work placements, and pre-employment pathways in partnership with our supply chain and social value networks.”
