Watering Can owners to run second Liverpool outlet

Owners of popular south Liverpool café bistro, The Watering Can, have signed a five year deal to operate a second outlet nearby. Tony McDonough reports

Owners of the popular south Liverpool café bistro, The Watering Can, are to operate a second outlet close to Sefton Park.

Keith Perryman and Philip Starling opened The Watering Can on the outskirts of Greenbank Park in April 2019. Despite facing huge challenges during the pandemic, the award-winning venue is thriving.

Now the duo have signed a five-year lease in partnership with Greenbank Sports Academy to operate its food and beverage outlet. It comprises almost 5,500 sq ft of space which includes and outside terrace. The outlet has a capacity of 65 covers which can be maximised up to 120 people including those standing.

£100,000 has been invested into the venue, located in the college’s former canteen. It will offer a full breakfast menu. From 1pm if will offer smaller lunchtime menu with a selection of sandwiches and bigger plates. These will include as The Wheelbarrow ‘posh fish sandwich’.

In partnership with Greenbank College, Keith and Philip will offer work experience and traineeships to the Greenbank College students.

Keith Perryman said: “As someone who was raised in the area, I am delighted we are able to invest in and support our local community. My partner Phil and I are incredibly proud of the venues we have created.

“We look forward to welcoming our guests to The Wheelbarrow and showcasing a venue we have transformed into a hidden gem. It will be well worth a visit.”

The Wheelbarrow will be open to the public with a full menu from Friday, June 10. It has been open serving teas, coffees, snacks and takeaways since June 3. It will open 9am to 10pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
