A whisky-themed gift shop will open in Churchtown in Southport at the end of April.

On Saturday, April 30, The Dram will open its doors at 76 Botanic Road, adding yet another local independent business to the village. It will offer a variety of whisky-themed products including: hip flasks, whisky glasses, whisky infused tea and a choice of 35-40 fine whiskies.

Shoppers would be able to try some of the whisky on offer inside the shop before they buy. The Dram will add to the food and drink choice already provided by businesses such as Chuchtown Deli, which also sells alcohol and holds tasting events, as well as RS Fine Chocolate, Peets Plaice fishmongers, Graham Eyes butchers and others.

Darren Boyd-Preece, director of The Dram, said: “We have had a really good week. We have now been awarded our alcohol licence by Sefton Council. At the hearing, councillors heard five positive submissions which were sent to the local authority to endorse our application.

“I would like to thank all those who wrote in to support us, and who recognise the positive impact our new gift shop will have on Churchtown when we open.”

The Dram has also received backing from the prestigious Arran Whisky distillery in Scotland. Arran Whisky is located on a small island in the Firth of Clyde between the Ayrshire coast and the Kintyre peninsula.

The local water, microclimate and air quality all influence the creation of this much sought-after whisky with a rare and unique personality all its own – a little like The Dram. Darren added: “Arran Whisky Distillery is now supporting us by sponsoring our tasting area.

“We have enjoyed spending some time up in Scotland to meet with them. They have arranged a mural to be painted on the back wall of our shop, which we are sure our customers will enjoy.  We are looking forward to our opening day on April 30 for anyone who would like to come.”

The Dram is set to occupy another empty retail unit on Botanic Road, adding to the vitality of the Village, which is booming thanks to a number of other recent arrivals such as Little Sparks, Barklays and Vintage Home.
