Work is set to start on a £14m development that will see 32 apartments built on the site of the former West Kirby fire station in Wirral.

Cheshire housing developer, Blueoak Estates is behind the scheme that includes 32-one, two and three bed apartments.

This site was becoming severely dilapidated and affected by vandalism, attracting anti-social behaviour in recent years. This new scheme will see the land repurposed and reimagined.

In September 2022 Wirral Council initially turned down the application by Blueoak but the developer was successful in its second attempt earlier this year.

The fire station closed in 2016 due to budget cuts with a replacement later built in Saughall Massie. Wirral Council had said the site was designated for commercial or social infrastructure.

Iain MacLean, managing director of Blueoak Estates, said “We’re so pleased to see work begin on this fantastic site.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard fine tuning and refining our designs to create a viable development that meets the diverse needs of all stakeholders.

There is a massive housing shortage across Wirral and many are being forced to move out of home towns like West Kirby. Schemes such as this present a great opportunity for a diverse range of residents to own their dream home within their dream address.

“The scheme ticks many boxes for an incredibly broad audience. It is set in a brilliant location, within vibrant West Kirby, with ample parking and strong transport links.

|Each unit has outdoor private space, lift access and is within walking distance to all amenities. We anticipate strong levels of interest from the outset and welcome all enquiries.”
