Merseyside cancer support charity Liverpool Sunflowers has received a £100 cash donation as part of Yorkshire Building Society’s annual “Make a Difference” campaign.

The charity, which provides a range of support services for anyone in Merseyside battling with cancer, was nominated to receive this donation by a local customer from the building society’s branch in Woolton Village.

The team at the Woolton Village branch joined other branches of the building society from across the country in celebrating 150 years of helping people to save for their futures and buy their first homes, by calling on members of the public to nominate local charities of their choice to receive £100 gifts.

Five local charities have each received the anniversary donation as a result, including:

• Liverpool Sunflowers Cancer Support Group
• The Dogs Trust
• Parkinson’s UK
• Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice
• Garston Animal Rescue

Linda Beswick, Manager at the Woolton Village branch said of the initiative:

“Our annual Make a Difference campaign is always very popular, but this year we’ve been able to support more charities than ever before thanks to the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation’s generous donation to mark the Society’s 150th anniversary.

“I’m delighted that five worthwhile causes in our area are part of the hundreds of local charities the Society is supporting throughout the UK, and I’m sure the money will be used to make a positive difference in our community.”

“On behalf of all of our service users, volunteers and staff at Liverpool Sunflowers, I want to say a huge thank you to the Yorkshire Building Society for this donation, and to their customer for nominating us.

“This money really will make a significant difference to a number of individuals and their families from across Merseyside who are facing news of a cancer diagnosis this Christmas.”

Liverpool Sunflowers is a registered charity which offer a wide range of free and professional support to cancer patients and their family members, including counseling, alternative therapies, activity groups, and group support sessions.

It also offers an informal drop-in advisory service at the Liverpool Sunflowers Centre, which is open daily between 10.00am – 4.00pm
