Sportswear brand founders pocket £9m windfall
Founders of Liverpool sportswear brand Montirex, Daniel Yuen and Kieran Riddell-Austin, share dividends worth just over £9m amid soaring sales and profits, adding to the £2.6m they pocketed last year. Tony McDonough reports

Daniel Yuen and Kieran Riddell-Austin only founded Liverpool sportswear brand Montirex in 2019 but already the business has made them very wealthy.
In September LBN revealed Montirex, which now sells its products all over the world, had generated a 79% rise in sales to £129.3m in the 12 months to December 31, 2025. Pre-tax profits also soared 76% to £34.5m.
Those figures came from a media release issued by the company. Now the full accounts have been posted on Companies House and they show Daniel and Kieran have pocketed a dividends windfall of just over £9m. This adds to the £2.6m they received in 2024.
Growth in 2025 was driven by strong demand across consumer and wholesale channels, increasing sales across European markets and the continued expansion of Montirex’s product offering.
During the year, the brand strengthened its position in the running and training categories through the expansion of its MTX Run range, while investing in more technical products through collaborations with performance fabric specialists including Polartec.
Expansion has continued after the accounting period. Against the backdrop of the Open Golf Championship returning to Royal Birkdale in July, Montirex launched its debut golf collection.
Montirex has continued to invest heavily throughout 2025, increasing its employee headcount from 66 to 111 as it expanded teams across marketing, product development and technology. However it did say recruitment was an ongoing challenge.

In the annual report finance director John Reid writes: “Growth was achieved across all sales channels and supported by continued expansion into new customer segments and geographic markets.
He added: “The result reflects strong demand for Montirex products, disciplined cost control and the benefits of a scalable and efficient operating model. The company continues to generate healthy margins and cash flows.”

While the results have increased the wealth of Daniel and Kieran they are also looking to share the fruits of their success. Earlier this year the Montirex Foundation was established to support charities and CICs in areas such as mental health and grassroots sport.
“The foundation aims to generate a positive and lasting impact within communities across Merseyside, reflecting the company’s commitment to responsible growth and community engagement,” said John Reid.
