Builders’ merchant Birkenhead Building & Roofing Supplies (BBRS) is reporting a rise in annual revenues but a fall in pre-tax profits amid higher costs.

However, the directors of the firm have described the result as “satisfactory”. BBRS has posted its accounts for the 12 months to September 30, 2025, on Companies House. They show a small rise in revenues from £16m in the previous year to £16.1m.

They also show pre-tax profits falling from £2.7m in the previous year to £2.1m. Director Martin Pilgrim said the reduction in profitability had been “driven by material cost rises during the year.”.

Martin, along with Stephen Pilgrim, are listed on Companies House as persons of “significant influence or control” at BBRS which trades from three branches in Birkenhead, Neston and Ellesmere Port.

Barrie Pilgrim established the business in 1981 Martin and Stephen are his two sons. The company originally only supplied roofing materials but has developed over the years to become a one stop shop for any trade involved in the construction sector.

It has separate and dedicated timber, plumbing and heating, roofing and building departments and keeps in stock more than 4,000 products at any one time. The business employs around 40 people.

The accounts also show a strong balance sheet with net assets increasing over the year from £5.9m to £7.4m. Shareholder dividends for the year totalled £162,000.

Writing in the annual report, Martin added: “The group and company is focused on continuing to grow the business both organically and via acquisition, should the right opportunity arise.”
