Knees up in a brewery heralds start of Spring

Beer will flow once again at Liverpool’s former Cains Brewery – albeit temporarily – when it welcomes hundreds of real ale lovers at the end of this month

The Spring Beer Festival takes place at the Stanhope Street site from Thursday 31 March to Sunday 3 April, featuring more than 200 ales, ciders and perries from independent brewers across the UK.

The event coincides with the annual general meeting of real ale organisation CAMRA, which is expected to attract as many as 20,000 of its national membership to Liverpool over the course of the weekend.

Festival organiser Real Ale Events is providing a shuttle bus service to take CAMRA members between the city centre and the former brewery site, which is located in the city’s Baltic Triangle area.

The event, sponsored by Liverpool Organic Brewery, will feature live music hosted by grassroots emerging music festival, Threshold, which takes place over the same weekend.

There will also be a variety of food stalls from local independent retailers including Oddfellows Chocolate Company and Bongo’s Rock n’ Roll Chilli Pickles, as well as a gin bar operated by Liverpool Gin.

Mark Hensby, managing director at Real Ale Events, said:

“The former Cains brewery is an iconic part of Liverpool’s brewing history and should provide a fantastic backdrop for the Spring Beer Festival. The CAMRA AGM means Liverpool will welcome tens of thousands of real ale lovers from across the country and we look forward to welcoming our regular customers from the city region alongside our friends from CAMRA. With a unique line up of live music and food outlets, we are confident of staging a festival that reflects this city’s incredible passion for handmade, high quality ales.”
