With work on its £6.1m home now under way following a huge fundraising campaign, Liverpool children’s hospice Zoe’s Place switches to its new name. Tony McDonough reports
Liverpool children’s hospice Zoe’s Place has now changed its name to Little Lights Liverpool Baby Hospice as it gets set to enter a new era.
Main contractor Krol Corlett has started work building a new home for the charity at Hayman’s Green in West Derby. This will expand its reach and services and enable it to help even more children and their families.
In October 2024 it was revealed the future of the hospice was in doubt. It needed to raise £5m in 30 days to secure its future. In the end more than 60,000 organisations and individuals raised around £7.4m.
Biggest single donation came from the owners of Liverpool-based value retailer Home Bargains with a pledge of £2.5m.
This new facility will provide specialist care and support to babies and young children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, as well as vital support for their families.
Little Lights was chosen following the Same Heart, Fresh Start competition held last year, with the winning entry submitted by Amelia of St Paul’s Catholic Junior School in West Derby. It was unveiled at the Liverpool Zoe’s Place Thank You concert held at the M&S Bank Arena in July last year.
This name was inspired by the idea that every child shines brightly and the new name reflects moments of light, hope and joy that the hospice helps create for families during the most challenging times.
Barry Kushner, project manager at Little Lights, said: “Little Lights is a name that truly reflects who we are and what we do.
“While our name is changing, our mission remains exactly the same, to be there for families when they need us most, providing care, comfort and moments of joy. When the new hospice is open, we will offer even more.”
Designed by B&L Creative, a local Liverpool design agency, the new brand identity “reflects warmth, individuality and adaptability”, designed to grow with the charity as it enters this new phase.
