Dragons take to the docks for annual boat race
Over 250 business guests gathered on Princes Dock last week to take part in the fifth annual Liverpool Waters Dragon Boat Race, organised by Peel.
28 teams from some of Liverpool’s leading organisations including Brabners, KPMG, CMA-CGM, Jones Lang LaSalle and many more, took to the choppy waters and battled it out to be named the top dragon.
All in the name of charity, the event raised several thousand pounds for Peel’s North West good causes, Once Upon a Smile and Christie’s Hospital.
This year’s winners were DLA Piper who walked away with the trophy, champagne and title of champions for the next year. They pipped Weightmans and Mitchell Charlesworth who finished in second and third place respectively.
There were a record number of participants this year with new teams taking part including Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.
Participants were treated to a delicious pre-race BBQ hosted by the Malmaison Hotel and further refreshments were provided by Bean Coffee during the race, both located at Princes Dock.
The event drew in quite a crowd as people lined the banks of the docks to watch the aquatic competition unfold.
Liza Marco, asset manager at Peel, said:
“Every year I am astounded by the increasing numbers and the wide range of companies who take part. The event provides Peel with the ideal opportunity to showcase the development with its stunning waterfront backdrop and on-site amenities.
“Thankfully the weather was kind to us once again and we have had some excellent feedback from the participants.
“Dragon Boat Racing is a networking event like no other. It is great to meet all these influential businesses from Merseyside and unleash that inner competitor inside, all in the name of charity.”
