Independents’ Week on its way to Liverpool this July

The spotlight will be on the best of Liverpool’s independent businesses next month, when Independents’ Week begins on July 3, and culminates in a one-day celebration on Bold Street.

Brought together by Liverpool BID Company on behalf of its BID levy payers, Independents’ Week will celebrate the growing independent business community on and around Castle Street, Old Hall Street, the Cavern Quarter, Church Street, Metquarter and Bold Street.

The campaign will see a week of special offers and events inside various independent businesses across the city centre.
The week-long campaign will conclude with Celebrating Bold Street on July 9, which will see a street takeover of local businesses including a farmers market, arts and crafts stalls, pop-up kitchen and street entertainment.

Nisha Katona, founder, Mowgli, said: “Independents’ Week is a great way to raise the profile of the many amazing independent businesses we have in the city centre. Thanks to Liverpool BID Company, we have an opportunity to say “look, we are here – come in and take a look”. Many people will discover what is on offer here – perhaps for the first time – and the hope is that they come back to see us again next time they are in the city centre.”

Speaking about the idea behind the initiative, Bill Addy, chief executive, Liverpool BID Company, said: “One of the main aims of Liverpool BID Company is to drive more people – both locals and visitors – into our areas, to use our amazing businesses. It is also vital to Liverpool’s growth as a global city that the city continues to foster a strong and robust independent scene on the high street. It is (our) businesses that really make Liverpool unique, and Independents’ Week is about celebrating that, and creating an event that will spur on their future success.
“Independents’ Week is also about strengthening the relationships within the local independent business community – giving them a platform to share their entrepreneurial spirit and encourage them to work together in the future to continue their prosperity.”
