Liverpool company wins deal to work on Egypt’s £30bn capital city project
A Liverpool company has won a deal to work on an impressive project for a new capital city in Egypt.
Creative firm Uniform are producers of beautiful visualisation films to support schemes across the world.
This week, the agency secured a contract to produce a short film to bring to life an ambitious project to regenerate Egypt’s capital city Cairo.
Laurie Jones, creative director at Uniform, said:
“Cairo’s population will double by 2040 and we’re working with master planners SOM to bring a proposed £30bn new capital city to life.
“We’re delighted to be working on one of the biggest and boldest proposed city developments in the world at the moment.”
Outlined as part of the £30 billion plan is a new, privately funded capital city, aimed at creating a new sustainable capital between Cairo and the Suez Canal.
Being 12 times the size of Manhattan and seven times the size of Paris, the geographical scale of the project is overwhelming. It will accommodate five million people, create one million jobs, and involve building 2,000 schools and colleges.
At present, the capital does suffer from congestion and the aim is to alleviate this and other pressures. As a result, population is predicted to soar from 18 million to 40 million within 40 years.
Uniform has been commissioned by SOM to create an eight minute film to explain the project and depict the vision to people, including the Prime Minister of Egypt.
The company, based in the Ropewalks area of Liverpool city centre, has also created several design images to demonstrate the quality and style of the city, architecture and public spaces.
The contract for Uniform comes on the back of its work on Downtown Dubai Promenade, a 500 acre mega development around the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
