LMH get greenlight for £8 million revamp

Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) has been given the go-ahead from Liverpool City Council to redevelop a landmark tower block in an £8 million initiative.

The council’s planning committee has approved plans allowing Marwood Tower to be revamped into modern apartments, complete with communal gardens within its enclosed inner area.

The tower is situated between Great Homer Street and Kirkdale Road and will provide 81 apartments for over 55s.

The plans, designed by John McCall architects, will involve a complete refurbishment of 57 flats and the construction of 24 new apartments, providing a mixture of one and two-bedroom properties.

Steve Coffey, LMH chief executive, said:

“This is fantastic news for the people who will live in the refurbished tower and also the immediate and wider area.

“When looked at as part of the Project Jennifer area, you can see a huge transformation of this part of Liverpool.

“Tenants will enjoy modern apartments that feature high living standards and a communal area with a range of facilities that will help foster a strong community spirit.

“For Liverpool as a city, the landmark building will be modernised considerably, giving it great kerb appeal to nearby residents and also the large number of people who pass by every day.

“Local residents attended a consultation event and expressed their pleasure with the plans and their comments were included in the proposal so it’s great news this is now going ahead.”
