A new Liverpool food hall will open in the city centre in late spring, creating 132 new jobs.
Upmarket city centre retail mall, Metquarter, has secured a letting with the Milestone Group operating under its brand, General Post Office (GPO). The food hall will offer a variety of cuisines in a model similar to the existing Duke Street Food and Drink Market and Baltic Market.
GPO is a nod to the former use of the building as Liverpool’s head Post Office. It will be located on the Victoria Street entrance at Metquarter adjoining the Everyman cinema. It will aim to champion independent regional operators.
Metquarter owner Queensberry says the GOP letting will “complete the remixing of Metquarter and will complement the varied offer bringing new life and activity to the remainder of the building. In December, the £15m LMA performing arts academy, co-owned by pop star Robbie Williams, opened its doors.
Alex Hyams, asset manager for Queensberry, said: ‘This is tremendous news, we’re delighted to be bringing Milestone Group as experienced food hall operators to Liverpool. GPO will be the largest food hall in the city centre and adds to the dynamic blend of uses which make up our unique offering at Metquarter.”
Matt Bigland, founder and director at The Milestone Group, said: “GPO will be a hub for Liverpool’s emerging food hall scene. With a mix of design and culinary excellence, GPO will showcase the best in up-and-coming food and drink talent in the heart of Liverpool city centre.
“Independent and totally unique food vendors make up the mix, hand chosen and incubated to showcase the best in the world food in one iconic venue.”
