One of Liverpool’s most famous pubs – the Sandon in Anfield – has undergone a £100,000 transformation as its new owner targets the corporate market.

The Sandon dates back to 1870 when it was regular meeting venue for players of St Domingo FC, which later become Everton, and was the headquarters for the team. The players also used it as a dressing room for decades.

These days it is more associated with the Blues’ fierce rivals Liverpool and regularly pulls in more than 5,000 people on Anfield match days.

Earlier this year the venue was acquired by Kate Stewart who once managed Liverpool’s Heritage market and opened a string of beauty salons in her early twenties.

Now she has spent £100,000 refurbishing suites to attract a weekday corporate audience and has partnered with Liverpool FC to provide match day hospitality.

Ms Stewart said: “The Sandon is well known with football fans the world over and it has an amazing history. And I’m now using that history to our advantage.

“We’re placing its history and those links to both Liverpool and Everton football clubs at the heart everything we do.

“With me, The Sandon is more than just a pub. We have refurbished the suites and are now offering the venue as a unique destination for conferences and events.

“I want to do a lot more work in Anfield. I know the Sandon can be part of the regeneration of the local community too and I’m working hard to make that happen.”
