House of Memories, National Museums Liverpool’s dementia awareness programme, which supports carers of people living with dementia, has received a £4,000 donation from the organisers of the North West Housing Conference, commercial law firm Brabners and accountancy firm Mitchell Charlesworth.

House of Memories is an award-winning training programme, which was founded in 2012 to support both professional and family carers, and provide people with the skills needed to help facilitate a positive quality of life experience for those living with dementia.

As well as training opportunities for professional carers, House of Memories also offers sessions for families, friends and volunteer carers to attend, in addition to hosting reminiscence social events for older people across Liverpool’s museums.

This donation comes specifically from the profits raised by the conference. It will help House of Memories to develop its training programme, provide additional training dates and activities, while also delivering home-based memory resources and access to theMy House of Memories app.

With this support we’ll be able to host more sessions for family and volunteer carers, as well as provide more training opportunities for professional carers, all of which help us to reach our aim of improved quality of life for people with dementia.”

Mitchell Charlesworth partner and social housing specialist, Paul Wainwright, also said:

“It was clear to see from the delegates’ reaction to the House of Memories presentation at last year’s conference that the programme struck a chord; we can all empathise with family and carers of those living with dementia, so we’re delighted that we have been able to help National Museums Liverpool continue to provide much needed training and resources.”

This year’s North West Housing Conference is due to take place on 4 November at Liverpool’s BT Convention Centre.
