Culture Liverpool director Claire McColgan is one of a number of professionals taking part in an event focused on accelerating gender equality in the creative industries.

Being held at the Royal Liver Building on Tuesday, November 29, the event is being organised by WACL. This is an organisation comprising more than 250 senior women from advertising, communications and media.

Their stated mission is to “accelerate gender equality in our industry”. This week’s lunchtime gathering is titled The Pursuit of Bravery – Lessons in Resilience, Tenacity and Courage in a Turbulent and Volatile World.

It features a line-up of some of WACL’s most senior members. They include president Rania Robinson, chief executive of Quiet Storm, Stephanie Hughes, director of marketing at Everton FC and Claire McColgan.

The event will begin with a light networking lunch and then move into a panel discussion, followed by a Q&A and then breakout sessions.

Other professionals taking part in the discussions include Lucie Cave, chief content officer of Bauer Media and Susie Castle, head of marketing at Open Media. Host is Dawn Paine, co-founder of Liverpool-based creative agency Aurora.

Dawn said: “The key messages are around female bravery in a volatile world – and never has this been more resonant.

“And of course, regionally, there is something very powerful that we will explore around what the specifically Liverpool version of bravery looks like – being something of a maverick and at the same time purposeful and always striving for social justice.”

This session follows on from the event WACL held in Manchester in June, which focused on the next generation of female talent.
