Sportathon Festival celebrates achievements of Liverpool’s young sports stars

Earlier this month more than 230 Liverpool schoolchildren took part in the event held at Liverpool John Moores University’s IM Marsh Campus in Aigburth.

St Sebastian’s Primary was one of the participating schools on the day

Organised by LSSP, a school-based organisation promoting sport and healthy lifestyle, the event saw 22 schools descend on LJM’s IM Marsh Sports Campus to take part in a variety of sport.

Year 1 and 2 children from schools across Liverpool took part in a wide range of activities on the day, including matball; traditional sports day games and a treasure hunt.

Seven students from Broadgreen International School supported the event by acting as sports leaders.

As the day came to a close, a presentation ceremony was held and all participating schools received a certificate and trophy.

LSSP has been supporting PE, physical activity and school sport since 2000. Its aim is to help all children and young people access high quality PE, physical activity and sport in their school and community.

The LSSP team organise a coordinated programme of events and competitions throughout the year which make a difference to teachers and young people.

Event organiser Jay Watkinson from LSSP said: “It’s so important to promote sport and healthy lifestyles from a young age and this event did just that.

“The atmosphere at the festival was fantastic and to see so many children active and excited about participating in sport was great. The awards presentation celebrated every pupil’s talent, determination and effort – everyone went home a winner!

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of our sports leaders from Broadgreen International so a big thank you to them.”
