Superfast broadband funding expansion for Liverpool SMEs

As of July 2014, cabinet members approved the participation of Liverpool City Council in the Government’s “Super Connected Cities” voucher scheme for small to medium enterprises.

The government scheme will offer a voucher for small businesses contributing up to £3000 toward capital costs for superfast broadband connection. Liverpool has been allocated £1.5 million of the funding pot, supporting approximately 500 vouchers.

The scheme has been in operation since August 2014, and was initially only available to businesses located within Liverpool City Centre and designated Enterprise zones, effectively comprising the Commercial District and the Waterfront.

However, the scheme has now been expanded to include the whole of the Liverpool local authority, so that any SME within the region is eligible. There will also be access to a further £40 million in government funding as part of a national voucher scheme that will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

On top of this, the scheme has been extended to March 2016, a further year from the March 2015 end date.
