Liverpool buildings on shortlist for RICS awards

Five Liverpool buildings and refurbishment projects are on the shortlist for the RICS Awards which recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies. Tony McDonough reports

Five Liverpool buildings have been shortlisted in the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Awards for the North West.

They include the £11m refurbishment of India Buildings in Liverpool, which is to house 3,500 HMRC staff, and phase one of the £130m refurbishment of the city’s historic Tobacco Warehouse.

Also on the list is the Old Library in Tuebrook, Waterloo Warehouse and the new Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in the city centre. A panel of expert judges will decide the  winners and they will be revealed at a virtual ceremony in May. The full North West shortlist is: 

  • Buildings, Water Street, Liverpool (Commercial Development, Heritage, Public Sector, Refurbishment – Revitalisation).
  • AMRC North West, Preston (Commercial Development).
  • The Old Library, Tuebrook, Liverpool (Community Benefit, Heritage, Refurbishment – Revitalisation).
  • Summit Up Climbing, Oldham (Community Benefit).
  • Broughton House, Salford (Community Benefit).
  • Waterloo Warehouse Waterloo Rd, Liverpool (Heritage).
  • Warwick Bridge Corn Mill, Carlisle (Heritage).
  • Heritage Court , Grosvenor St, Chester (Heritage).
  • Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool (Public Sector).
  • Department of Work and Pensions, Brunel Way, Blackpool (Public Sector).
  • Tobacco Warehouse Phase 1, Stanley Dock, Liverpool (Refurbishment – Revitalisation).
  • Crossford Court, Dane Road, Sale, Greater Manchester (Refurbishment – Revitalisation).

The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies.

Entries are shortlisted across five categories – Commercial Development, Community Benefit, Heritage, Public Sector, and Refurbishment-Revitalisation Companies still have the opportunity to enter an additional four categories – to be judged nationally – and have until April 29 to submit their entry.

Chair of the RICS Awards judging panel, Peter Gilliland, said: “Despite much uncertainty and challenging conditions over the past couple of years, property professionals in the North West continue to deliver exemplary, and in many cases, world-class built projects that are having a profoundly positive impact on our cities and towns.
