Liverpool creatives encouraged to bid for funding

Creative sector firms from across the Liverpool City Region could qualify for a share of a new £8 million pot of funding aimed at the media, digital and games industries.

This money has become available from Creative England after is reported that its bid for Government support was successful.

Creative England chief executive, Caroline Norbury, said:

“The creative industry is growing three times faster than any other and our creative talent is world-leading, so serious investment in the people driving this growth and their ideas is a no-brainer.

“Creative England has so far invested nearly £14.5m in the creative industries, contributing directly to the growth of the UK’s economy.

“And our teams are expert at finding the most exciting new talent this country has to offer; we’ve supported award-winning games developers, digital healthcare platforms and the latest social media software and apps.

“This £8m means we continue to invest in the best creative talent and businesses in cities all across England, helping to bring their ideas to life and their businesses to flourish.”

This funding will encourage an already booming creative economy, currently experiencing its most successful year on record with an increase of nearly 10% in GVA.

Research from TechCity and innovation charity Nesta reported that the accelerating growth of digital businesses had resulted in growing employment and business opportunities in the creative sector across the UK, highlighting Liverpool’s importance as a growth hub for creative and digital industries.

The £8 million investment will form part of the Government’s Creative Industries Business Growth Programme and means that Creative England will now be able to offer support to creative businesses across the entirety of the country, rather than restrict its efforts to London.
