Access North West will aim to give a voice to people from across Liverpool

When author Jason Pinnington was interviewed as a guest on local radio to talk about his book he didn’t imagine it would lead to him launching his own radio station.

On September 1, Access North West will hit the airwaves and Jason, founder and managing director, aims to make it a genuine community broadcaster – giving a voice to people across the city.

Having worked in IT for almost 30 years, Jason turned author with his first novel, Harry Webb in ‘A Potato With Her Name On’. He was a guest on a local radio show presented by Frank Carlyle, a renowned local historian.

He and Frank hit it off and he ended up working as Frank’s producer. He felt he has really found a calling in radio and he started to develop the idea of launching his own station. Jason then also got to know another local entrepreneur and author, Angela Preston, who also appeared on Frank’s show, as well as another radio presenter – Des Flanagan – and both have offered support to the venture.

Initial discussions centred around creating a station that would be accessible to everyone in the community and that is where the idea for the name came from. The station is aimed at creating a strong community where the voice of the people can be heard within a positive environment.

The output will be aimed at supporting the community through music, lifestyle, history as well as a career show and inspirational show amongst others.

Frank Carlyle has joined Jason on Access North West to continue the Frank Carlyle show on a Monday night, and Angela and Des will be presenting the Business show on a Thursday between 7pm-9pm.

The show will be based on; A Day In The Life, which hears business leaders from all walks of life talking about their day and how they stay motivated to do the job they do, they also discuss why they chose that career path and what advice would they give to someone looking to go into the profession.

Angela will also present The Get Up and Go Motivational show which is aimed at supporting individuals who are facing difficult times in their lives or have previously faced adversity, whether that is in a career, personal or just finding life difficult.

Access North West will also have a lifestyle show, which will include anything from cooking to walking, various music shows, covering music from every era, and The Scottie Road Writers, a well known writers group that has produced some famous writers will be sharing some of their work.

The Paranormal show will cover everything we find strange and sometimes hair raising, the history show will talk about the history of Liverpool and beyond, Local Matters will see those from the community talking about matters that are important to the community and last but not least the Takeover show will see a different charity take over a weekly slot to share what their charity does and how it can help those in the community.
