George, from St Helens, set up the ‘Run with George’ campaign in a bid to thank the doctors and nurses who saved the life of his younger brother James, now six, when he was born premature and fell into a coma.

Commencing at the park’s Victorian glasshouse, he completed the one-mile run alongside members of the Hollyoaks cast, and ‘personal trainer to the stars’ Maziar Ajtar.

Senior events manager at Sefton Park Palm House Rosemary Sorrell said: “I speak on behalf of the team at the Palm House when I say we can’t begin express the pride and joy we feel to have backed such an amazing cause – George is a truly inspirational young boy.

“A massive well done goes to everyone who took part.”

Run with George has so far raised more than £8,000, with proceeds of the campaign going towards paying for life-saving equipment at Liverpool’s Alder Hey hospital.

He plans to run one mile for every month his brother has been alive, which equates to 75 miles.
