Tile Fire produced the murals for the supermarket giant of Halstead’s town centre and former train station from the early 1900s with the help of the local historical society

Liverpool tile manufacturer Tile Fire has competed a contract with supermarket giant Lidl to manufacture and install two bespoke historic murals.

Lidl is opening a new store in Halstead in Essex and the murals depict the history of the town dating back to the 1900s.

They were produced from photographs, one showing the town centre and the other Halstead’s former train station. The images were sourced with help from the Halstead History Society.

Tile Fire director Andrew Cousins said: “We’re ecstatic to have been involved in such a unique project, the murals remember a time over 100 years ago. I’d like to think they’ll still be around in 100 years for future generations to enjoy.”

And Jim Davis, of Halstead History Society, added: “We were really pleased when they contacted us. We supplied the photos from our archive, and I know the whole history society were thrilled.”

Tile Fire manufactures bespoke tiles and tile murals and was set up with support form the Prince’s Trust Enterprise scheme. Director Andrew Cousins won the North West Enterprise Award in 2016.
